Frequently Asked Questions

Aren't the Greens a left-wing party?

This is a common misconception. The Greens are neither left-wing nor right-wing. We want Canadian businesses to be successful. Maintaining an adversarial relationship between business owners and employees is just not a good way to organize politics in the 21st century.

I'd like to vote Green but I'm afraid a party I don't like will win this riding.

The Greens pull votes from each of the three main parties almost equally. Your Green vote will probably be matched by Green votes from people who would have voted for the other parties.

Is climate change and global warming for real?

The science is clear. Carbon dioxide and methane from fossil fuel production and use is causing our planet to heat up. The five hottest years in recorded history were all in this decade. Most plants and animals cannot adapt as quickly as humans can, which threatens our food supply. This is an emergency that must be handled by the next parliament.

Why the focus on electoral reform?

Canada is one of the few democracies in the world that uses a 19th century electoral system designed for just two parties. It doesn't work well when there are four to six parties. In our system, a party can get full control of all legislation with just 35% of the votes. And only two-thirds of people vote at all, because they feel that their vote just doesn't count.
